빈 또는 기록된 테이프를 청소하기 위하여 제작된 장치로서 기록된 정보는 소자되지 않는다. 처리 과정에 있어서 청소기는 테이프 표면에 흐뜨러져 있는 미립자들을 닦아내고, 응고된 미립자들을 물질러 벗기고, 묻어있는 미립자들은 긁어낸다. 또한 이것은 테이프 받침대로부터 정전기적 형성물을 없애며, 테이프를 적절한 인장력으로 정확하게 되감는다.

A device designed for cleaning both blank and/or recorded magnetic tapes, in which the recorded information will not become degaussed. In the process, the cleaner wipes away loose particles, scrapes away adhered particles and slices imbedded particles at the tape surface. In addition, it will drain off electrostatic build-up from the tape backing material and rewind the tape precisely at the proper tension.
