실린더형이나 기타 형태의 단면을 갖고 있으며 외면에 파여진홈 부분이 있다. 이는 슬리브나 밸브체의 각종 흡입 및 배출구를 적절히 선택함으로써 선형방향 조정 밸브내에서 흐름의 방향을 조정하도록 되어있다. 슬라이드는 이렇게 왕복운동을 하면서 홈부분을 슬리브나 밸브체의 각종 구멍에 맞추어 준다. 이는 "오프" 위치(흐름이 막히는 곳)를 갖고 있을 수도 있다.

An item which may have a cylindrical or other cross-sectional shape, with recess areas on the periphery. It is designed to control the flow direction in a linear directional control valve by the selection of various inlet and outlet ports in a sleeve or the valve body. The slide reciprocates thus mating recess areas with the various ports in the sleeve or valve body. It may have an off (no flow) position.
