항공기 에어 컨디션장치에서 찬 공기를 공급하도록 만들어진 비활성 배출 기계장치이며,압축공기 에너지가 열을 임펠러 바퀴를 돌리기 위해 기계에너지나 일로 전환 시킬때 온도가 내려가거나 냉각 공기를 얻게 된다. 압축 공기는 노즐을 통해 들어가서 임펠러 바퀴를 돌리는 회전력을 만들어 주는 터빈 바퀴의 날개 위에 부딪히게 된다. 임펠러 바퀴에는 소용돌이형 구조속의 축받이 위에 있는 노즐 고리와 연결되는 터빈 바퀴도 포함된다.

A nonpositive displacement mechanical device designed to provide cool air in aircraft air conditioning systems. Cool air or reduction in temperature is obtained when the heat or energy of compressed air is removed by converting it to work or mechanical energy to drive an impeller wheel. Compressed air is directed through nozzle vanes and impinged upon the blades of a turbine wheel creating rotary motion which drives an impeller wheel. Consists of an impeller wheel, a turbine wheel matched with a nozzle ring on a bearing mounted shaft within a scroll type housing(s).
