원격소스로부터 싱크로에 의해 전달된 테이프 지시에 의해 고도를 재는 서어보제어용 기구로써, 지령정보와 기압계의 압력계수기로 구성된다. 지상에서는 고도계를 0고도에 고정하기 위해 무고도장치를 사용하며 고도분리 요구에 대처하기 위해 정확성이 요구되는 항공기에 사용하도록 설계되었다.

A servo controlled instrument which measures altitude by tape indication transmitted by synchro from a remote source. Consists of command information and barometric pressure counters. It employs a zero setting system to permit the altimeter to be set at zero altitude at an existing ground level.
