한 개 또는 그 이상의 전기회로의 개폐 기능을 수행하기 위하여 설계한 스위치이다. 분리된 접촉 소자와 관련하여 스위치의 작용기능을 반도체 및 수동회로 장비의 배열수단에 의거 달성된다. 이 품목은 영구적인 자장, 금속, 용량 또는 자기감응 계수에 의지 유발되는 자신의 내부회로내의 전기적 변화에 상응해서 기능을 발휘한다. 품목의 형태 및 작동의 형태(압력, 비녀장 및 회전운동)는 분리 가능한 접촉소자를 보유한 스위치의 작동과 동일하다. 종전에는 미국을 제외한 모든 국가에서 사용하였다.

A switch designed to perform the function of opening and/or closing of one or more electrical circuits. In lieu of separable contacts, the switching function is accomplished by means of an arrangement of semiconductors and passive circuit devices. The item functions in response to electrical changes in its own internal circuit caused by the approach of permanent magnets, metals, capacitance or inductance. The form of the item and kind of actuation (push, toggle and rotary action) may be identical to that of switches having separable contacts.
