압축 응력을 가한 유리 조각들로 이루어진 투명 품목으로서 곧고 평행한 표면을 갖는다. 압축 응력은 용융 온도까지 가열한 다음 양 면을 균일하게 담금질(quenching)함으로써 얻는다. 급속 수축은 높은 표면 장력을 발생시키기 때문에 큰 기계적인 힘을 가했을 때만 깰 수 있다. 깨진 유리는 구 모양의 쪼개지지 않는 파편으로 부서진다. 이 품목은 내열성이거나 색을 넣을 수 있으며, 일반적으로 자동차 창문 같이 안전 특성이 필요한 곳에 사용한다. "유리컵, 접합형"은 제외한다.

A transparent item consisting of prestressed pieces of glass, with straight parallel surfaces. Prestress results from heating up to fusing temperature followed by uniform quenching on both sides. Quick shrinking produces a high surface tension which only can be broken down by a heavy mechanical load. The shattered glass crumbles into spherical non-splintering pieces. It may be heat resistant or tinted and is generally used where safety characteristics such as in motor-vehicle windows are required. Excludes:GLASS, LAMINATED.
