한 기능 장치에서 다른 기능 장치로 전달되는 데이터의 임시 저장을 위한 품목이다. 이 품목은 데이터 흐름 속도 또는 데이터 포맷의 차이 때문에 직접 상호 연결할 수 없는 다른 종류의 컴퓨터 부품 사이의 연결 링크이다. 이 품목은 주로 외부 저장장치, 입력 및 출력장치, 그리고 주 기억장치 사이에 사용된다. 완충기(버퍼)는 한 흐름 속도로 데이터를 수신할 수 있으며, 변환 후에는 다른 흐름 속도로 데이터를 송신할 수 있다. 이 품목은 조립체로서 반 저장 또는 코어 기억장치로 구성된다. 마이크로 회로는 제외한다.

An item for temporary storage of data which are transmitted from one functional unit to another one. The item is a connecting link between computer parts of different kinds which cannot be directly interconnected due to the differences in data flow rates or in data flow rates or in data format.
