셀레늄을 피복한 원통에 일정한 양전하를 가한 다음 렌스장치로 영상을 투사하여 하전 표면을 원본의 영상에 노출 시키는 기계. 원본을 반사하는 광선은 원통에 투사되어 정전하를 소산시킨다. 원본의 영상에 일치하는 원통의 전하는 그대로 보지된다. 원통의 대전표면에 부착하는 흑색 분말을 원통에 뿌린다. 원통에 부착한 분말의 영상이 복사지에 전사되고 그 다음 분말 영상을 가열하여 복사 원지에 융합된다.

A machine which applies a uniform positive charge to a selenium coated drum and then exposes the charged surface to the image of the original by projecting the image through a lens system. Light reflected off the original strikes the drum dissipating the static charge. The charge on the drum corresponding to the image of the original is retained. The drum is sprinkled with black powder that adheres to the charged area of the drum. The adhering powder on the drum transfers the image to the paper. The powder image is then fused to the paper by heat.
