12인치(30센치)이하의 길이를 가진 한몸체로 된 곧은 부품으로서,양끝에 똑같은 크기의 부품들(도관이나 호스 이외의 직선형의 기계 나선축)을 갖고 있다. 이는 양쪽끝에 모두 내부 나선을 갖고 있거나, 한쪽끝에는 내부 그리고 다른 한쪽끝에는 외부 나선을 갖고 있는 두가지형이 있다. 이 나선들은 가스켓(GASKET:전극료),예비성형 패킹(PACKING:이은 자리나 새는 틈사이에 메워넣는 물건) 와서(WASHER:나사 따위를 끼울때 밑에 대는 가죽이나 고무 따위로 만든 고리쇠)등을 보스의 밀봉용 물질로서 수용하기에 용이하도록 해주는 역할을 한다. 이 연장장치 두개의 보스 또는 보스 설비품들을 연결하는데 쓰인다. 양쪽끝에 모두 외부 나선 연결품을 가진 품목은 여기에서 제외된다.
