한개의 고정기어와 한개의 자유기어로 이루어졌으며 각 기어는 워엄기어의 이를 가지고 공통허브에 설치되어 있다. 자유기어는 고정기어에 스프링으로 부착되어 하나의 기어같이 작동된다. 상대기어의 설치로 자유로 작동되는 기어의 이는 고정기어의 이 아닌 다른 이들과 맞물리게 되어 있다. 고정기어와 자유기어 사이의 스프링의 장력은 주동기어와 종동기어 사이에 어떠한 자유운동도 발생시키지 않게 한다. 이기어는 동일하고 정확한 운동을 전달할 필요가 있을때 사용한다.

An item having one fixed gear and one free gear, both having the same complement of worm wheel gear teeth, mounted on a common hub. The free gear is attached to the fixed gear by springs and operates as one gear. Upon installation with the mating gear, the teeth of the free moving gear are preset to mesh with teeth other than those of the fixed gear. This spring tension between the fixed gear and the free gear eliminates any free motion between the driver and the driven gear. The gear is used where identical and accurate transmitted motion between gears is required.
