흐름의 직선방향으로부터 180도 이하의 각도가 되도록 관을 연결하는데 쓰이는 이음쇠이다. 한쪽 연결단은 나선이 만들어져 있거나(파이프나 호스와는 다른 직선형 나선) 또는 나선없이 만들어져 있어서 여기에 튜브를 연결할 수 있도록 되어있고, 타단은 외부나 내부에 나선이 만들어져 있어서(파이프나 호스와는 다른 직선형 나선) 보스를 밀봉시키기 위한 가스켓트, 패킹,와셔등을 쉽게 끼울 수 있게 만들어져 있다. 측면이나 후부에 유입구가 있는 것도 있다. 이 엘보우는 튜브나 튜브 이음쇠를 탱크,하우징,밸브 이음쇠 등의 보스나 보스 이음쇠에 연결하도록 만든 것이다.
