끝이 뽀죽하고 몸통은 차차 상단으로 굵어지고 상단에는 자연또는 유색두부가 고정부착되어 있다. 몸통은 고도로 연마된 부식하지 않는 강철이고 강도는 록크웰-45 이상이다. 몸통의 길이는 1/2인치 이상이 되어야 한다. 두부는 플라스틱, 유리 또는 부식되지 않은 금속으로 되었다. 야전측지점과 표병표적의 위치를 지도와 사격도판에 표정하는데 정밀 기재와 함께 사용한다.

The shaft is highly polished, corrosion-resistent steel with a hardness of not less than Rockwell C-45, with a taper 1/2 inch (12.7 millimeters) or less in length. The cap shall be of corrosion-resistent metal. Its primary use is in conjunction with precision instruments. It is designed to serve as a pivot for an aluminum range deflection protractor in locating artillery battery positions on maps and firing charts. Excludes:MAPTACK; and PLOTTING NEEDLE.
