동작을 전달하는데 사용되는 똑바른 축, 또는 동작을 전달하도록 다른 품목을 위하여 선회점으로써 사용되는 움직이지 않는 똑바른 축이다. 이것은 하나 이상의 다음과 같은 조건들을 갖추어야 한다.1내지 125 마이크로인치의 산술평균치(AA) 범위 내로 특수표면 마감 지시된 기계 외면 평탄부,원형홈,키홈,홈,나사 또는 구멍들이다. 다른 품목의 구멍에 끼워맞춤으로서 정렬토록 고안되지는 않는다.주유구멍을 위하여 천공될 수 있다.통합기어나 웜기어가 있는 품목은 "기어축(GEARSHAFT)(서술된 품목)"을 참조한다.상기 조건들을 갖지 않는 품목은 "핀,직선형,무두형(PIN,STRAIGHT,HEADLESS)"을 참조한다. 계단식으로 된 기계처리식 단부를 갖는 품목은 "축,어깨형(SHAFT,SHOULDER)"을 참조한다.

A straight shaft having two or more of the following conditions: a specified surface finish designation in the range of 1 to 125 microinches (o.o25 to 3.2 micrometers), arithmetical average (aa), machined peripheral flat(s), circular groove (s), keyway(s), splines, threads, or holes. It is not designed for use in aligning by fitting into corresponding holes of another item. It may be drilled for lubricating holes.
