수증기 증발이 되지 않도록 봉합되거나 복사판 형태를 한 제거할 수 있는 자물쇠가 달린 상자속에 화학적으로 처리된 압지가 들어있는 장치이다. 이것은 유아의 발에 의해 남긴 자국을 그 입자로 전사시켜서, 화학분해와 감광시킨 화학물질 사이에서 생긴 화학작용에 의해 현상된 자국을 감광된 기록카드에 나타낸다.

A device consisting of a chemically treated disposable pad sealed in a moisture vapor barrier or a case with a removable snap-in type printing plate. The pad may come with a sensitized record card whereon the image is developed by chemical action between the chemical solution transferred from the pad by the infant's foot and the sensitizing chemicals on the card.
