보통 서로 반대로 있는 한개의 배출구와 두개의 유입구를 가진밸브로서 양쪽 유입구를 제어하고,셔틀이라고 불리우는 유체 압력으로 작동되는 피스톤모 양의 물체를 가진다. 정상적인 서비스 라인에서 압력 손실이 있을 경우에 항공기 유압 또는 공기압 계통에서 유체의 비상통로를 마련하는데 통상 사용된다.

A valve having one outlet and two inlets that are usually opposite each other. It has a fluid pressure operated pistonlike item, called a shuttle, that controls either inlet. It is commonly used to provide an emergency passage for fluid in an aircraft hydraulic or pneumatic system in case of loss of pressure in the normal service lines.
