하우징안에 들어있는 물동이 모양이나 휀이 달린 모양의 회전 임펠라에 의해 공기나 가스를 최초 흡입압력으로 부터 더 높은 배기압력으로 압축시키도록 만들어진 음방항거리 압축기. 전기모터,가솔린이나 디젤엔진 등과 같은 독립 동력원에 의해 구동되도록 되어있다. 원동기,공기 저장탱크 등은 포함하지 않는다. 전동활차,짐부리는 기계 등과 같은 여러가지 주변부품을 포함하기도 한다.

A nonpositive displacement compressor designed to compress air or gas from an initial intake pressure to a higher discharge pressure by means of bucketed or finned type rotary impeller(s) inclosed in a housing. It is designed to be driven by an independent power source, such as an electric motor, gasoline or diesel engine, or the like. It does not include the prime mover, air storage tank, and the like. It may include various peripheral components, such as drive pulley, unloader, and the like.
