변소, 소변기, 수체구멍, 이와 유사한 배관설비를 고정시 키는데 사용되는 물렁물렁한 물질이다. 비 휘발성 석면 검유 및 비아스팔트질 접합체등으로 조성되었고 박테리아 번식을 방지할 만큼 충분한 량의 살균제가 첨가되어 있다. 또한 가스와 연무가 새어나가지 못하게 하며 콘크리트나 타일 바닥에 바르면 누수방지 및 오염방지기능도 갖는다. 기름끼가 없으며 썩거나 응고 또는 말라버리지 않는다.

A doughlike material compounded primarily for setting water closets, urinals, service sinks and similar plumbing fixtures. It is composed of asbestos fiber nonvolatile and nonasphaltic binder, and germicide sufficient in quantity to prevent support of bacterial life. It is gas and fume proof, watertight and nonstaining when applied on concrete or tile surfaces. It does not contain oil, and does not rot, harden or dry. See also SEALING COMPOUND.
