액체를 한곳으로부터 다른 곳으로 이동시키기 위한 수단으로서 구동축 주위에 반경방 향으로 배열되어진 다수의 피스톤들의 왕복 및 회전운동을 이용하는 일방향 변위 장치이다. 피스톤의 변위는 고정되어져도 좋고 가변적이어도 좋다. 이것은 펌프의 구성품 이 아닌 원동기에 의하여 구동되어지도록 설계된다.

A positive displacement device which utilizes the reciprocating and rotary motion of a multiple number of pistons which are arranged radially around a drive shaft as a means of transferring a liquid from one place to another. The piston displacement may be fixed or variable. It is designed to be driven by a prime mover which is not an integral part of the pump.
