액체를 한곳에서 다른곳으로 이동시키는 수단으로서 실린더 통내에 축방향으로 정열된 다수의 평행한 피스톤들의 왕복 운동을 이용하는 일방향 변의 장치 피스톤들은 구동축과 일정한 각을 가지고 있는 실린더통을 회전시켜서 움직여지거나 혹은 실린더 통이 구동축상에서 회전될때에는 경사진 상자에 의하여 움직여진다. 피스톤의 변위는 고정되거나 혹은 가변적이어도 좋다. 이것은 펌프의 구성품이 아닌 원동기에 의하여 구동되어 지도록 설계된다.

A positive displacement device which utilizes the reciprocating motion of a multiple number of parallel pistons arranged axially in a cylinder barrel as a means of transferring a liquid from one place to another. The pistons are actuated by revolving the cylinder barrel at an angle to the drive shaft axis or by a tilting box when the cylinder barrel revolves on the drive shaft. The piston displacement may be fixed or variable. It is designed to be driven by a prime mover which is not an integral part of the pump.
