An instrument designed for use in conjunction with aircraft cameras. It provides a clear unobstructed view of the terrain below and in some cases, ahead of the aircraft for the photographer or navigator. It provides a means for determining the correct exposure interval. It may also include optical drift system for determining ground speed or angular drift.
