An optical instrument designed to break up the light from a source into its constituent wave lengths and to provide a means of qualitative or quantitative study of the spectrum line formed. The instrument essentially consists of four parts; the slit, the lenses, the dispersion system and photographic or photoelectric system. The instrument may incorporate a prism or grating system for the dispersion of light.
