수직의 두쪽 막대를 가진 빗장으로서 작용상자에서 합쳐지며 상자로부터 반대 방향으로 펼쳐진다. 막대는 홈에서 움직이고, 문안쪽에서 수평 가로장에 의하여 튀어나가며,또한 손잡이 고리 손잡이,레바,또는 키 등으로 밖에서 작용시키면 튀어나가게도 되어 있다. 자물쇠 또는 걸쇠에 장비되어 있으며 두 조각의 막대는 압축된 위치에서 잠겨 있다가 문이 밖에서나 안에서 작동하도록 해준다.

A bolt with a vertical two-piece rod, which is joined together in the active case, extending in opposite directions from the case. The rod slides in guides and is thrown by means of a horizontal cross bar on the inside of the door and may be thrown by a handle, knob, lever, bar or key on the outside of the door. It may be equipped with a lock or latch; the two-piece rod may be locked in a retracted position to permit the door to be operated from inside or outside.
