옴가가 조절되거나 변화될 수 없는 저항장치로서, 저항전극은 묶는 물건이나, 절연물질이 포함되지 않고 절연된 형태로 놓여진 전도물질의 얇은 층으로 이루어졌든지 절연된 형태에 통상 용해된 금속의 합금과질그릇형 물질로 구성되든지 한다. 전류의 흐름에 대한 저항은 사용되는 물질의 고유특성이며, 품목자체에서 낭비되는 열로 나타난다.

A resistor whose ohmic value cannot be adjusted or varied. The resistance element consists of either a thin layer of conductive material, containing either binders or insulating materials, deposited on an insulated form; or an alloy of metal and ceramic materials, usually fused to an insulated form.
