받침형 마루를 만드는데 사용하는, 일반적으로 평행하게 마주보는 면들로 된 받침. 이것은 단 한개의 받침으로 되어도 좋고, 혹은 둘이나 그 보다 많은 나무조각이 서로 안전하게 결합되도록 되여진 조립용 받침으로 되어도 좋다 . 어떠한 형에 있어서도 받침의 수직면이나 측면은 일반적으로 혀와 홈을 가지고 있는, 혹은 스플라인을 위한 홈들을 가지고 있는 다른 받침과 결합되도록 대패질이 되어 있다. 이것은 너무 대패질이 잘되었기 때문에 나무의 결이 수평으로 되거나 받침의 웃면에 수직하다.

A block with the opposite faces generally parallel used in the construction of block floors. In either form, the vertical faces, or sides, of the block are usually milled for joining to other blocks, generally with tongue and groove or with grooves for splines. It is so milled that the grain of the wood runs horizontally or in a direction perpendicular to the top surface of the block.
