증기와 물 혹은 공기의 냉각매체가 분리된 실을 통하여 인도되며 금속을 통한 전도에 의하여 증기로 부터 열을 빼냄으로서 응결이 일어나는 장치이다. 이것은 증기의 계속적인 응결과 부수적인 비응결 가스제거와 부분진공을 유지하도록 응축물을 제공하며 공기 배출기를 포함할 수도 있다.

An apparatus in which steam and a cooling medium of water and/or air are directed through separate chambers and condensation is effected by abstracting the heat from the steam by conduction through metal. It is designed to provide for continuous condensation of steam and removal of subsequent noncondensable gases and condensate to support a partial vacuum. It may include air ejectors.
