3각을 이루기 위해 기둥의 토대 끝에서 마스트까지 이동하면서 거더를 기울이는 두개의 수평 원재 또는 기둥의 토대로 보통 바닥에 버티고 있는,한쪽 끝에 원재, 마스트 또는 A-프레임으로 구성된 데릭이다. 붐은 다른 각도로 승강하고 또는 수평으로 회전하도록 조정되어 있다. 권상장치는 보통 이장치의 일체성형 부품은 아니다, 그러나 데릭으로 부터 일정 거리 밖에 위치한다.

A derrick consisting of a spar, mast, or A-frame set on end and usually supported at the bottom by two horizontal spars or sills, with inclined beams running from end of sills to mast to form a triangle. A boom is fastened to the lower end of the mast or of the sills. The boom is so arranged that it may be raised or lowered at different angles or swung horizontally. The hoisting unit is generally not an integral part of this device but may be located any distance from the derrick.
